In the 1940's the National Geographic Society declared Lake Vermilion one of the top ten most scenic lakes in the United States. And it still is today. With its 40,000 acres of water, 365 islands and 1200 miles of shoreline, it stretches 40 miles across the heart of Minnesota's Arrowhead Region.
We inivite you to try a unique camping experience by visitng Campground Island. Located near Tower-Soudan Mn only 1 mile from a public launch on beautiful Lake Vermilion you can experience a Boundary Waters type experience on your own 2.5 acre private island. There are no other campers on the island. You rent the whole thing! There are multiple places to place your tents with 3 bon-fire pits across the island to set up the view of your choice. There is a cabin in the event of adverse weather. The cabin was built in the mid 50's and needs work but is solid and has room for 4-6 people to sleep. It also has plenty of room to keep your gear. It does have a couch, a queen size bed, and 2 cots if you needed to use them but their in questionable condition. Again the cabin is for adverse weather primarily.
There is a 40 ft dock for boats of all sizes ( 9 ft deep at the end of dock ) as well as a gas grill and a very rustic outhouse but no electricity, No running water, and is pimarily intended for those that want a remote camping location for a boundary waters type experience but close enough to experience all of the other AREA ATTRACTIONS including the SOUDAN UNDERGROUND MINE TOUR, FORTUNE BAY CASINO, A World Class golf course ranked #1 in Minnesota of " Best Courses You Can Play " by 2007 Golf Week Magazine in Tower Mn at the WILDERNESS GOLF COURSE, PUBLIC BEACH with showers/store ( approx. 2 miles by boat ), professional FISHING GUIDES and much much more...
